Home/Production/The CUBE System

The Styrkholm CUBE

Steel cubes. Your plan.

Every Holm is built from the same part: a 10 x 10 ft steel cube that joins to other cubes on any side. Lay out your own bunker plan, give every cube a purpose, put the doors where you want them, and add cubes as your household grows. Complete from $251,900 installed.

The Holm line

Named by
the cube.

A Holm 2 is two cubes. A Holm 8 is eight, a 20 x 40. A Holm 6 can be a 20 x 30 or a 10 x 60, and odd numbers work too: a Holm 5 or 7 puts a decontamination or storage room off the side.

One cube, one room

What a cube
can be.

Give every cube a job. Keep the machinery together, the sleeping cubes away from the entry, and the kitchen beside the bath so the plumbing stays short.

  • Entry and airlockPut this cube behind the exterior door: the stair or hatch, the gas-tight door and the first seal against the outside.
  • DecontaminationA sealed cube between the entry and the living space, to wash off fallout before going further in. Add the Decontamination room option for the shower and drain.
  • Utility: air and powerFilters, blowers, batteries, inverters and controls in one cube, so machinery noise and heat stay out of the living space.
  • CommunicationsRadios, the situational awareness screen and the antenna feeds, in a quiet cube near the entry.
  • KitchenGalley counters, sink and cooking. The Water and Plumbing systems serve it, so it works best beside the bath or utility cube.
  • DiningA table for the whole household, next to the kitchen.
  • Living and commonSeating and open floor for the household to spend the day together.
  • Bunks and sleepingBuilt-in bunks. We plan two people per cube across the whole layout; a bunk cube itself can hold four.
  • Primary bedroomA private room with a full bed and storage.
  • BathToilet, shower and sink. The Plumbing and Waste systems serve it.
  • Medical and supplyFirst aid, medications and medical supplies in one place. The Medical system adds the equipment.
  • Food and water storageShelving for long-term food and water. The Water system adds the tanks.
  • Storage and vaultShelving, gear and a secure vault for documents and valuables.
  • WorkshopA bench and tools for repairs.

How it is priced

Every part,
on the page.

Every side of every cube is an opening. A side that touches another cube is joined with a mate package; every outside side gets a door, an exit or an end cap. The Builder adds and counts every part for you, so nothing is left out.

Cube

$35,500

Each 10 x 10 ft engineered steel module, delivered, crane set, sealed and backfilled.

Mate package

$4,000

One on each cube at every joint, so two joined cubes open into one space.

Exterior door

$29,000

The main entry: a gas-tight, blast-rated steel door with its stair or hatch.

Emergency exit

$14,000

A second way out on a different side, used if the main entry is blocked.

End cap

$6,000

A blank steel wall, welded and sealed, on every outside side without a door or exit.

Interior finish

$12,000 a cube

Walls, flooring, LED lighting, wiring and built-ins, in every cube.

Site package

$17,000 a job

Excavation, drainage, engineering for the whole layout, permits, inspections, commissioning and training.

Example: a Holm 3 is three cubes in a 10 x 30 with two joints. That is $106,500 of cubes, $36,000 of finish, four mate packages ($16,000), one door ($29,000), one exit ($14,000), eight end caps ($48,000) and the site package ($17,000): $254,500 before systems.

Questions

Before
you build.

What is the Styrkholm CUBE?

The steel module every Holm is built from: a cube 10 by 10 feet on the outside, about 9 feet 4 inches square inside with an 8 foot finished ceiling, that joins to other cubes on any side. At 10 feet wide it travels on a flatbed under a standard oversize permit. Lay them in a straight run like a 10 by 40, a square like a 20 by 20, an L, a U or a larger grid, give every cube its own use, and add cubes later.

Why are Holms named by number?

The number is the number of cubes. A Holm 2 is two cubes and a Holm 8 is eight, so a Holm 8 can be a 20 by 40, and a Holm 6 can be a 20 by 30 or a 10 by 60, depending on the ground you have.

How is a Holm priced?

Each cube is $35,500 plus $12,000 of interior finish. Every joint between two cubes takes a mate package on each cube at $4,000 each. Every outside side gets an exterior door ($29,000), an emergency exit ($14,000) or an end cap ($6,000). Each job has one $17,000 site package. Systems are added on top.

What can each cube be used for?

Any room a household needs: an entry and airlock, decontamination, a utility cube for air and power, communications, kitchen, dining, living, bunks, a primary bedroom, a bath, medical and supply, food and water storage, storage and a vault, or a workshop.

How many people does a Holm sleep?

We plan 2 people per cube across the whole layout, so a Holm 3 sleeps 6 and a Holm 8 sleeps 16. Air and power systems are sized up automatically as the layout grows.

Can I add cubes later?

Yes. Leave an end cap where the next cube will go and we can open it and mate a new cube to it later, subject to the site and the engineering.

Is the pricing final?

Cube prices are preliminary while engineering for the cube system is completed. Every price is confirmed in writing after the site visit, as with every Styrkholm build.
