Bunker Systems

Communications: news in, word out, eyes outside.

Below ground, phones go silent. A communications system keeps a household connected and informed: satellite internet while it works, radios when it does not, a satellite messenger for emergencies, and cameras that show what is happening outside without opening the door.

Three tiers

Priced,
installed.

Optional in every bunker. Add it in the Builder, or later. Prices are installed in Utah, including equipment, labor and commissioning, and are confirmed in writing after the site visit.

How we size it

The numbers
behind it.

Licenses

GMRS radios require an FCC license, with no exam. Amateur (ham) radio requires an FCC license and exam. We can point your household to local classes.

Buried feeds

Antenna and data lines run in buried conduit with lightning arrestors at entry, so the bunker's penetrations stay sealed.

Spares

A spare radio stored in a Faraday enclosure is cheap insurance against a surge or pulse.

Subscriptions

Satellite internet and messenger plans are billed by their providers. Prices change; we confirm them at setup.

Questions

About
communications.

Will Starlink work from a bunker?

The dish sits above ground with a buried cable to the bunker. It needs a clear view of the sky and power.

Do we need a ham license?

To transmit on amateur bands, yes. GMRS needs a license without an exam, and anyone may listen to shortwave and weather radio.

Can we see outside without opening the door?

Yes. Every tier includes cameras at the entry, viewed on a recorder inside.

Prices set 2026-10-28 from published retail equipment prices plus installation. Brand names describe the class of equipment; we may substitute equal or better equipment based on availability. Subscriptions, well drilling and septic systems are quoted separately.
