Bunker Systems

Pets: room for the animals that come with you.

Most families will not leave a dog or cat behind, and an animal living underground needs the same things people do: a place to sleep, food and water planned ahead, a way to stay clean and somewhere to relieve itself that does not foul the air. The Pets system builds that in, and a Pets cube in the Builder gives it a room of its own.

Three tiers

Priced,
installed.

Optional in every bunker. Add it in the Builder, or later. Prices are installed in Utah, including equipment, labor and commissioning, and are confirmed in writing after the site visit.

How we size it

The numbers
behind it.

Water

A common veterinary rule of thumb is about 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight a day. A 70 lb dog drinks about half a gallon a day, or roughly 50 gallons over 90 days. Store pet water in addition to the family's, and add more for the wash tub.

Air

Animals add heat and moisture just as people do. Tell us how many pets and how big when you send your design, and we count them when we size the air and heat systems.

Waste and odor

Pet waste is bagged and sealed, and the relief area exhausts only through the exhaust side of the air system, through a check valve, so it never becomes an unfiltered air intake. The carbon filter controls odor; it is not part of the NBC protection.

Hygiene

Wash hands with soap and water after handling pets, their food or their waste. The hand-wash station beside the pet area makes that easy in a closed space.

Questions

About
pets.

Can I bring my dog into a bunker?

Yes. Plan for the dog the way you plan for people: food and water for the full stay, a place to sleep, a way to stay clean and a relief area that does not foul the air.

How much water does a dog need?

A common rule of thumb is about 1 ounce per pound of body weight a day, more in heat or with exercise. A 70 lb dog needs about half a gallon a day.

Where do pets go to the bathroom underground?

On an indoor turf relief station with a catch basin. Solids are bagged and sealed; the liquid drains to a catch basin or the holding tank, and the Standard tier adds its own exhaust fan.

Do I need a separate cube for pets?

No, but it helps. Drag a Pets cube into your layout in the Builder to keep crates, the wash tub and the relief area away from food and bunks.
