Important disclosures
This calculator shows an example only. It is not an advertisement of available credit terms, an offer of credit, or a commitment to lend. Styrkholm does not make loans or arrange financing. The annual percentage rate, down payment and term shown are the values you entered, not rates or terms available from Styrkholm or any lender. Actual rates, terms, fees and eligibility are set by your lender and depend on your credit, income, collateral and the loan type. Payments shown include principal and interest only and do not include taxes, insurance or lender fees, which would increase the payment. Results are rounded.
How families pay for a bunker
Where the
money comes from.
A bunker is not a house, so most mortgage lenders will not finance one on its own. These are the routes our buyers ask about. Talk to a lender and a tax advisor about which fits you.
Home equity
A home equity loan or line of credit borrows against a home you already own. Rates are often lower than unsecured loans because the home secures the debt.
Construction or renovation loan
When a bunker is built with a new home or as part of a larger project, some lenders will include it in a construction loan or a renovation loan on the property.
Personal or secured loans
Some lenders make large personal loans or loans secured by other assets. Rates are usually higher and terms shorter.
Cash and staged payments
Many buyers pay cash. Paying in stages, with a reservation deposit, a payment at contract and payments at delivery and completion, spreads the cost across the build.
