What a bunker really costs, side by side.
Most bunker makers publish the price of the shell at their factory. We publish the price installed on your land. Here is how the leading makers compare once freight and installation are counted, using their own published numbers.
The 10 x 40 class

The 10 x 40 foot bunker is the most common family size, and the one where published prices overlap. Estimates for other makers add freight from Texas and installation using Atlas's own published guidance: about $3 a mile for freight and a budget of about 30% of the shelter price for installation.

Freight
Shelters built in Texas ship on a truck at roughly $3 a mile. Northern Utah is about 1,350 miles away.
Installation
Excavation, crane, concrete work, welders, plumbers and electricians. Atlas tells buyers to budget about 30% of the shelter price, and its crews bill $125 a man-hour plus expenses.
Engineering and permits
A stamped design and county permits are part of a lawful installation. Our installed price includes the stamp and inspections, with permit fees at cost.
Systems
Air filtration is common to most makers. Power, water, heat and humidity control, plumbing and waste vary widely, and often cost more than the shell. Our complete price includes every required system.

For four people, Atlas listed its 10 x 25 and 10 x 30 from $125,000 to $175,000, and Rising S lists its 10 x 20 and 10 x 30 at $78,900 and $97,900, before freight and installation. Our Haven 4 is $130,000 installed, $194,900 complete. For twelve, no maker we found publishes a single unit of 960 square feet; Atlas's largest listed unit, the 14 x 50, ran $300,000 to $475,000 before freight and installation. Our Hold 12 is $468,000 installed, $639,800 complete.
